"If you want to become whole, let yourself be partial.
If you want to become straight, let yourself be crooked.
If you want to become full, let yourself be empty.
If you want to be reborn, let yourself die.
If you want to be given everything, give everything up."

"I used to cry myself to sleep because I didn't write The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe, until my Mum pointed out that there were other people who also had not written The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe"
i have a big poem forming in my head, but the pieces are coming in one-liners. one sentence at a time, my mind is forming something. once i figure it out, i'll gladly piece it together.
until then, the one-liners melt into the tapping of my fingers, five seven five, the seventeen syllables of haiku.

For what it's worth: it's never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

"...But when I am alone,
I do not have the effrontery to consider myself an artist at all,
not in the grand meaning of the word.
...I am only a public clown.
I have understood my time and exploited
the imbecility,
the vanity,
the greed of my contemporaries.
It is a bitter confession, this confession of mine, more painful than it may seem.
But, at least, and at last,
it does have the merit of being honest."

I'm fascinated by the Tao. Learning about it in World Religions was really fascinating but honestly, my whole understanding of it extends to the metaphor of the river- the river carves out canyons not by striving to become a canyon but by passively just...being a river. But that's where my understanding of it all stops because for the life of me "let yourself be crooked" is about the worst way to become straight. I don't understaaaaaaaaand ='(
